Valedictory Speech By The Senior Prefect
The chairman of this occasion, the Principal, our special guest, members of the Staff, graduating class of 2021, Students, ladies and gentlemen; a good morning to you all.
I must say that it was not easy for me to sit down to begin to write this speech. Why? Well because where do one start from? How do I capture each individual’s experience of the class of 2020/2021 and merge it to form a collective experience?
Today three boys and eight girls are the center of attention. I recall how the school diligently prepared us to sit for mock exams and the final exams (JAMB, NECO and WAEC).
Mathematics and English language classes became longer than usual. This was due to the fact that external tutors came over to our school to teach us Mathematics and English language. Our timetable was therefore rescheduled to start. Although we were not all boarders, we were told to come to boarding house that one week of intensive teaching.
I congratulate my set of prefects for modest achievements. To the upcoming prefects, do not forget the importance of the badge on your chests. It is a sign of pride as well as humility. You must serve and not abuse your authority. As you take over from us, know that “to lead well, you must serve well”, I remember how the coronavirus got us into the abnormal which later became normal like the online classes which took over our second term of SS2. We started wearing facemasks as part of our uniform and sanitizer as part of our boarding house provision. When we finally resumed everything became different and still far from normal. We had to wash our hands, sanitize and our temperature taken before we entered into the school compound. They were beautiful advertising design everywhere which says “NO FACEMASKS NO ENTRY”. On the first day in school after the coronavirus cases had declined we started the class normally which was far better than the online classes since we all know that our internet transmission in Nigeria is bad. After one month of physical class we return to online class because of the ENDSARS protests which lasted for two months or so and we return back to school without any harm by coronavirus or the ENDSARS protesters.
I remember how Mr. James would come to the assembly ground and break the news.

We thank Dr. (Mrs.) Olagunju for making our schooling term so much fun. We shared a season of our lives, but every season has an end. Nonetheless, with each season that ends another is ushered in. Today we are standing at the edge of a cliff with a seed of positive possibilities below us. All that is required is a leap of faith to experience exhilaration when we reach the top of the mountain. Yes, as we dive into our future we will meet many fishes in this sea called life. We thank the management and our parents for the challenges life may throw at us. We thank all the staff teaching and non-teaching. The cleaning staff I must say have been outstanding in their performance despite the mess we made sometimes. Thank you, my fellow graduands and friends, It has been a wonderful journey experience so far. Let us not be sad to depart for if Donum Christi is to grow and if we are also to grow, we must both part for a while.
There are no good schools without good Vice principals. it just does not exist. And where you have good Vice principals, good teachers come, and they stay, they work hard and they grow. so we should always be ready to thank our Vice principals Mrs. Edwin Adjemre I really appreciate you for being so patient and working so hard with everyone to boost their confidence. The additional instruction you gave us after the class really made a difference. words cannot express how grateful I am to you for your kind and compassionate care. we always find you there whenever we need you. Thank you for being a light in the dark and. your kindness meant so very much and will not be forgotten.
We thank our beloved parents and guardians who have borne our stubbornness and shortcomings all these while and provided for us all.
Our greatest gratitude goes to God who has blessed and protected us all these years and has kept us alive to be here today.
I will say my friends that this graduation opens us to a new adventure. Let us remember all we have been taught and use them to change the world for the better.
To the class of 2021, I say farewell and hope we meet again in the nearest future.
Thank you for listening and may God bless you as you return to your homes and families.
Amen.
Thank you for visiting.
